When our meridian pathways are blocked, we experience emotional, physical and even spiritual malaise. But when these pathways are opened, prana – universal life force – flows though us, bringing harmony, lightness, and joy to our being, aligning us with heaven and earth, sun and moon, wind and sky.
From yoga asana, to resistance stretching, Chi Gong, to Oriental bodywork, Meridian Yoga artfully blends ancient and modern techniques that activate and balance the body’s meridian pathways, releasing blocked energy and bringing us into a profound connection with life.
You will learn:
• A Meridian Yoga asana practice
• PNF/Resistance Stretching – a modern, safe and effective stretching method
• Partner assists that open the 14 basic meridians
• Hands-on shiatsu and Thai yoga massage techniques that deeply release tension from the body
• Acupressure’s “potent” points for optimal health
• Pranayama (breathing exercises) that enhance life energy

Stretches for the lower and upper body will be taught, along with some elements of Shiatsu Massage (gentle finger and hand pressure, skillful touch, and relaxing joint manipulations.)

Agni Cultivation / Pranic Alignment in Yoga Asana with Kate Greer
October 27, 2012
12-3 pm ~ Agni Cultivation
Agni, or ‘fire’ is a central theme to the practice of yoga – how do we tend our fire and keep it going? How much fuel does it need and is it burning efficiently? In this workshop, Kate will present a brief Ayurvedic overview of agni in the body, what it does and how it works, as well as how the practice of Hatha yoga affects agni. We will then move through an explorative practice of heating the body in different ways and examining what kind of ‘burn’ will really keep us warm the longest. Hint: it’s not what you think! Because agni cultivation is inherently tied to the way we build and expend prana in all aspects of our lives, we will close with a discussion and time for reflection on whether we are ‘burning brightly’. Come stoke your fire, and explore one of the greatest ‘why’s of yoga!
4-7 pm ~ Pranic Alignment in Asana
So often we refer to ‘alignment’ in yoga postures by what the outside looks like. ‘Are the lines straight?’ and ‘Is the body in the correct and recognized shape of the pose?’ are typical questions. In this unique workshop, Kate Greer will offer an opportunity to build your poses from the inside out. ‘How does the posture feel?’ and ‘Are there muscular or energetic blockages that I could let go of?’ will be central questions in our exploration. Kate will offer a brief lecture on the flow of prana, or life force, throughout the body and will then lead the group in looking at individual case studies for ‘pranic blockages’. It is Kate’s hope that yoga practitioners and teachers alike can reap the great therapeutic benefits of asana, using the poses for healing and generation rather than performing them to any detriment. We will close our evening with a brief group practice, feeling for the energetic flow in our own bodies, and a grounding meditation to connect us to that experience.

Kundalini Yoga: Breathing the Inner Body of Light Immersion with Daniel Orlansky
October 28, 2012
Between you and God, between you the creation and the Creator, there is only one link, and that is the breath of life. ~ Yogi Bhajan
Awaken the inner body of light, the pranamayakosha, and expand your life force with Kundalini Yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan. This form of yoga combines breathing exercises (pranayama) with movements, asanas, deep relaxation, chanting, and meditation to awaken a great power within you known as kundalini energy, an energy with enormous healing potential. In this workshop we will learn how to enhance, extend, and harness the power of the breath. We will draw upon our inner locks — or bandhas — to channel our heightened pranic energy. And with mudras we will explore ways to strengthen our mental focus. If your yoga so far has been mostly about stretching, this workshop will deepen your relationship with the “radiant body” which is connected with your breath. With the techniques of Kundalini Yoga, you will touch your true identity, experience physical rejuvenation, mental clarity, and a brighten your spirit. Beginners and advanced students alike will receive helpful tips for an effective home practice.

The Art of Sequencing / Making Space: Feeling and Teaching from the Subtle Body with Barbara Benagh
November 17, 2012
12-3 pm ~ The Art of Sequencing
The difference between teaching an inspiring class and one that is not can be all about the choice of asanas, the order in which they are taught and the pace of the class. Barbara is known for her creative and effective sequencing, and for her powerful Slow Flow classes. During this workshop for teachers and interested students, Barbara will lead you in a Slow Flow practice before diving into the subject of sequencing. She will introduce different strategies that will be discussed and practiced and that can help even the most tentative sequencer gain confidence.
4-7 pm ~ Making Space: Feeling and Teaching from the Subtle Body
The yogic understanding of the material world is that form is vibration that has crystallized and become habituated as matter. When vibration is rhythmic the body/mind is healthy; otherwise the flow of prana is disturbed and health suffers. Practicing yoga maximizes harmony by consciously directing the flow of prana in ways that unblock holdings, create space and optimize the benefits of yoga. The ancient yogis created an esoteric technology for the subtle body that created a model to allow insight into the mystery of soul and existence beyond, but part of, the physical body. The challenge to the modern yogi is to both understand concepts such as koshas, prana vayus and chakras intellectually but, also, somatically; to embody these concepts, experiencing the effect of the subtle body of body, mind, and emotions.

Embodying the Open Ground: Somatic Practice, Meditation, and Philosophy with John Churchill
December 8-9, 2012
A Weekend Retreat Intensive with John Churchill
Cost: $195
In this weekend intensive for both experienced and beginning meditators we will turn our attention to the deep resources of our bodies. Rather than struggling to control and discipline the mind you will learn to relax and open into the experience of resting the mind into natural embodiment and awareness. Just like the ancient yogis of Tibet and India we will experience the body as a profound and easy door into natural non-dual awareness. In this weekend you will be closely guided to work directly with body, energy, breath and awareness, grounded in a non-dual Yogic understanding of mind and reality, and informed by an integrative perspective on the body and yogic philosophy.
During the weekend you will learn to:
• release the stress and tension of our modern lives
• calm thought
• open the heart
• work with the ground and earth as doors into boundless open
• listen to gravity as a immediate teacher of freedom
• experience the body as a boundless field of freedom and intimacy
• experience sensation as a easy door into natural non-dual awareness
• explore the gates (chakras) and channels of openness to rest in natural effortless meditation
These body meditations are unique. They help calm minds, open hearts, and reveal awareness, yet also heal the deep split between mind and body, the conscious and unconscious mind, and ‘ground’ back into the present moment. All these practices are offered to support revealing the natural awareness that is the essence of being human.
Born in England, John Churchill’s interest in meditative and contemplativestudies began as a teenager. After leaving high school, he joined Samye Ling Kagyu Monastery in Scotland where he began his studies in Mahamudra meditation. He came to the United States to study at Naropa, a Buddhist University where he majored in Contemplative Psychology with a specialization in mind/body health. During his time at Naropa, he studied with American philosopher, Ken Wilber, and was a founding member of Integral Institute. John received his Master’s degree from New England School of Acupuncture and is currently in private practice specializing in psychosomatic acupuncture. John has been a practitioner of meditation and hatha yoga for 20 years and has taught embodied yoga and meditation for the last decade. He co-founded, with his wife Nicole, Samadhi Integral, a center built on philosophical principles that embrace the cutting edge of contemporary culture and the deep wisdom of humanity. Samadhi is part of a worldwide network that spans traditions with a collective commitment to the spiritual evolution of humanity. Additionally, he has been a Mahamudra student of Dr. Daniel Brown since 2005, and began to study Dzogchen with the Venerable Rahob Rinpoche in 2007. John’s mentoring relationship with Dr. Brown led to his authorization as a teacher of Mahamudra in 2012, and he continues to work closely with Dr. Brown. He is deeply interested in the relationship between the body and awakening, psychological and contemplative development, and the emergence of an awakened community. Through his work, John assists students in developing a new path into the future which embraces the preciousness of human birth, physical embodiment, the earth, our relationships with others, and ultimately guiding them towards living a fully awakened life.

Yin Yoga Certification with Josh Summers
January 19-21, 2013 ~ Level One Yin Yoga certification
Yin Yoga is a complementary yoga practice to more dynamic and active yoga styles. In Yin Yoga, floor postures are held passively for several minutes in order to access a safe and positive ‘stress’ on the deeper layers of connective tissue in the body. Physically, Yin Yoga restores and maintains the natural mobility of the joints, primarily between the navel and the knees. Energetically, Yin Yoga opens the body’s meridian system, which enhances the body’s energetic flow and supports emotional equilibrium.
Yin Yoga emphasizes stillness and silence. The practice prepares both the body and mind for deeper experiences in meditation.
In the Yin Yoga Immersion/Teacher Training students will:
• Learn four essential Yin sequences, with relevant modifications and adjustments
• Understand the positive physiological effects of Yin Yoga on the connective tissue and joint health
• Learn about how the Chinese energy system is influenced by the practice of Yin Yoga, with emphasis on meridian and organ health
• Acquire experiential and theoretical knowledge of the Buddha’s core teachings on mindfulness meditation, which I s a great framework for integrating meditative themes into Yin classes or personal practice
The Immersion is suitable for those who simply wish to deepen their understanding of the practice. The Training is suitable for those both interested in deepening their understanding of the practice and perhaps teaching Yin Yoga. Students completing the three days will receive a certificate of training which is eligible for Continuing Education credit with the Yoga Alliance.
Cost: $395 before January 5th/ $445 thereafter. Fee includes a 65 page manual. Register: orlans@mac.com

Therapeutic Pranayama with Liz Owen
Sunday, December 18, 4:00 – 6:30 pm $50 ($95 for both Liz’s sessions this day)
Pranayama is the profound art and science of yogic breathing techniques that creates complete wellness and well-being. Pranayama practice reaches every layer of one’s being – physical, physiological, emotional, mental, and spiritual. It enhances physical health and relieves symptoms of physical imbalances, it nourishes the organic and endocrine systems, it cultivates a calm and balanced mind by balancing the nervous system, and it enhances an intimate connection between us and universal energy. Practicing pranayama changes the habitual tendencies of the energetic and mental bodies by undoing blockages in the energetic body and increasing the flow of prana, the essential and intelligent energy that connects all beings and sustains life, throughout the body.
In this workshop specific pranayama techniques will be presented to ease and relieve symptoms of physical and psychoemotional conditions and imbalances. You will learn why, how and when to apply these techniques to address your own needs so that you can create the best life possible for yourself.
Liz Owen combines physical alignment, meditative movement, and the cultivation of a joyful heart to create an innovative and transformative class experience. Liz has studied Iyengar, Vinyasa and classical Hatha yoga for over 25 years and was a certified Iyengar yoga teacher from 1995 – 2010. She teaches classes and workshops throughout New England, including at Yoga Journal Conferences and the Kripalu Center; she is also on the faculty of Wellesley College.
