Liz Owen ~ Yoga for a Healthy Lower Back Teacher Training Immersion

Saturday, October 21st, 12:00-3:00 pm & 4:00-7:00 pm, The Arlington Center, 369 Mass Ave, Arlington, MA

Part One – Open to the General Public, 12-3pm  ($30/Part One)
Open to everyone with lower back pain, especially beginners, and to yoga teachers, teachers in training, and other professionals wishing to deepen their knowledge of yoga as a healing modality for lower back pain. In our time together you will learn gentle, safe movements to stretch tight hip and lower back muscles and strengthen weak ones, techniques for coping with pain flare-ups, and ways to create natural tone and balance while respecting your body’s particular conditions and limitations. Special attention is paid to pelvic misalignment issues, sacral joint dysfunction, and spinal disk conditions. Liz Owen’s expertise of lower back health and yoga philosophy brings both Eastern and Western wisdom to bear on creating a healthy lower back and will bring mindfulness and depth to your journey of maintaining lower back health in daily life. “Yoga for a Healthy Lower Back”, by Liz Owen and Holly Lebowitz Rossi (Shambhala Publications) may be purchased at the workshop for $20.

Part Two – Teacher Training Immersion, 4-7pm  ($75/both sessions)
In this teacher training immersion we delve into the anatomy of the hips, sacral band, and lumbar spine, and we explore how the deep hip, abdominal, and leg muscles act on the lower back. You will learn about common lower back injuries, how asanas affect the lower back, and how lower back injuries can occur in yoga practice. You will take away knowledge of assists, props, and pose modifications for lower back conditions, and an understanding of how to help your clients ease their lower back pain. 6 Yoga Alliance CEU credits are available for RYTs.

This is a clear, insightful program for lower back health, rooted in classical yoga and rich in Western and Eastern wisdom. The authors offer fresh and accessible yoga practices that are sure to inspire a lasting, healing recovery from pain in the lower back. I love this book! ~ Patricia Walden, author of “The Woman’s Book of Yoga and Health”.
