Meditation: The Yoga Of Tranquility & Clarity
with Chip Hartranft
A Two-Day Immersion in Mindfulness
March 6-7, 2027
Yoga is a vast, spreading tree whose ancient roots run deep to the ground of being. In a sense, all yoga is meditation: no form of movement or activity can be called a ‘yoga’ if it does not help one discover presence. As the Buddha, Patañjali, and many others have taught, meditative tranquility and clarity are the tandem paths along which yoga unfolds, naturally inclining toward an effortless knowing and awakening (bodhi) accessible to all. To discover the stillness and openness already latent in experience is to radically reorient to the nature of body, heart and mind, transforming both practice and understanding. This will be especially true for those of us whose work has primarily been in the styles of modern postural yoga.
The root of all yoga practice is meditation. Have you ever sat down to try it, though, only to struggle with drowsiness, discomfort, boredom, or restlessness? It’s not just you: for centuries, yogis like Gotama have been pointing out these forms of resistance, which we all encounter initially on the path to ease and clarity. They’ve also shared simple, direct ways for anyone at all to locate presence, and to realize the nature of awareness.
In this two-day immersion, you’ll experience:
• an illuminated survey of essential meditative teachings (dharma) from yoga and Buddhist traditions, with invaluable take-home resources
• deepening awareness in dynamic and yin yoga practices
• creating the most comfortable, easeful meditation seat (āsana) for your unique body
• ways to steady or brighten even the most restless or drowsy mind, balancing tranquility (samatha) and clarity (vipassanā)
• how to cultivate radiant energy through mindfulness of breathing (ānāpāna-sati)
• the liberating arts of mindful sitting, walking, eating…and even driving(!)
• a path forward to integrate presence in your life
For yoga teachers, this immersion is available for CEUs, and will provide new materials and insights that will enrich your
